Investigators received a report this week from a Walden resident reporting that they received a call from a number that appeared to be from the police department, saying that the matter could be fixed by paying a fine of $1,000 with a credit or debit card, with future payable installments.

According to police, schemers can use elaborate systems to spoof caller ID information to appear as a different number. They also advise that they would not ask for money over the phone for such an instance. Anyone who receives a suspicious call or believes they have been scammed can contact police by calling (845) 778-5595.
